Pride is the charge that makes a leader unreachable. It is not arrogance, arrogance is only how it appears from outside. It is the systematic filtering of everything that arrives, so that only information already compatible with your self-image gets through. The organisational cost is precise: pride caps the quality of information reaching the top, and every other consequence follows from that one.
What is the pride charge? Pride is an emotional state of mind in which you hold a perceived high self-esteem and view yourself as skilful or extremely important, the “top dog” position. You have exaggerated one aspect of yourself and completely identified with it. New information must be judged worthy before it is admitted, which means you do not actually listen.
Where pride sits in the five charges
Pride sits at the Universe level of the three heart spheres, the sphere of satisfaction, and it is paired with the element earth. Its exact opposite is the jealousy charge, the underdog position. Where jealousy exaggerates what the self lacks, pride exaggerates what the self possesses. Notated as polarities, pride is the double plus and jealousy the double minus of the same sphere.
The comparison can be in any domain: wealth, beauty, power, education, skills, knowledge, status, attention or love. The mechanism does not change. You need to feel special and loved all the time.
Pride pretends to be the universe, while in most cases only one planet of expertise is actually ruled well.
The signature: the worthiness filter
The defining behaviour of this charge is the absence of genuine reception.
You have a tendency to be attached to yourself. You have taken one aspect of who you are and identified with it completely. As a result, new information or know-how is constantly evaluated by the mind and must be deemed worthy to fit inside your existing framework. From that position you do not actually listen to what is being said. The mind pretends to already have everything it needs to know, and is not interested in new information.
This is why feedback conversations with a prideful leader reverse direction within a minute. The information was never being evaluated on its merits. It was being checked for compatibility.
You are also continuously informing others about your know-how, your skills and your experience. What is actually happening in those moments is that you are trying to convince yourself that what you are saying is true.
Pride is the earth element because it is planet-bound. The person believes the knowhow is here, and that it is theirs. Yet everything they know arrived through someone — teachers, parents, colleagues who carried it to them. The top dog has forgotten all of them. Without gratitude toward those people, they end up identified with knowhow that was never their own. Which is why the charge dissolves at the Universe sphere: the moment you can see where it actually came from, there is nothing left to defend.
What sits underneath
Deep inside, you are very insecure.
This is the part that surprises the leader carrying the charge more than anyone else. The inflation exists because something underneath will not bear examination. A self-cherishing mind is constantly overactive – permanently comparing situations and the qualities of other people, permanently projecting fears into the future.
What it lacks is the love and faith inside required to build its own inner picture and trust that it will manifest. So it manufactures the confirmation externally instead. And a leader who needs every room to confirm them has handed control of their inner state to whoever happens to be in the room.
In most cases there is a specific origin: you want to prove to someone – usually a dominant figure from earlier in life – that you are independent, that you are better, that you can do everything on your own and need help from nobody. It does not have to be that way. You can be all of those things without proving anything to anyone.
How pride shows up in leadership
- Ideas are dismissed at first pass – and sometimes reappear later as your own
- Criticism is met with criticism. You use it to bring others down and refuse to acknowledge the effort, dedication and contribution of others
- Decisions taken alone are presented as though the team had been consulted
- Isolation increases. You push others away and live separated from the world, and this causes a conflict in your life you do not wish to feel
- The advisory circle self-selects. People who challenge you gradually leave; people who agree gradually rise
- You are easily slighted. Nobody else shares the exalted view you hold of yourself, so the people around you continually fail to show the respect and consideration you expect
- Heart connections are not appreciated. Genuine care directed at you is not recognised as care, because it arrives through a channel the ego does not read
Why pride is harmful in an organisation
Leaders operating from pride steal life energy, because they cannot generate it themselves. The mechanism is criticism, domination and manipulation — used to break down another person’s defences and draw off their positive energy.
Often the origin is symmetrical: in the past they received extensive criticism and identified with it. That may have lasted only a minute, but the programme has been running in their mind and ruling their life ever since. The pain of low self-esteem is then used as a weapon against exactly the people in their environment who show them love and respect. Everything is perceived as criticism, and criticised back.
If you are on the receiving end of this and you take it personally, it will hurt you. It is not actually about you.
Recognising pride in the people around you
Each charge invades your space in a characteristic way. Pride is the one that makes its own space large and rejects yours. The unspoken message is: you are inferior.
Compare: an angry person pushes you away – you are not useful. An attached person steps into your space and forces a union — you are useful for a purpose. A jealous person shrinks their space and wants to shrink yours – you need to be controlled.
There is also a diagnostic worth applying to yourself. What you cannot stand in others is a mirror of your own charge. If a colleague’s manner irritates you more than genuine failure does, that disproportion is the signal.
Identify which charge is actually running your leadership
→ Emotion Projection Assessment – produces a full profile across all five charges with scores and the specific behaviours each is currently producing in your leadership. This is the more revealing starting point for pride, because pride is the charge least visible to the person carrying it.
→ Inner Charges Scan Assessment – identifies the soul layer where the charge was formed, across six life phases from the womb onward. Pride formed at one layer requires different depth work than pride formed at another.
Suggestions for working with pride
The resolution for pride is satisfaction – the neutral position at the Universe level. Practically:
- Focus on what you have already received up to this moment, and develop gratitude for it
- Shift attention from intellect to heart – away from the ego, the properties and the credentials
- Begin praising the good qualities of others and refrain from criticising
- Recognise that your experience, skills and intelligence are collective. They arrived through teachers, parents and friends who taught you everything. Nothing is yours. You identified with it in order to compensate for low self-esteem
- Look directly at the insecurity. Which decisions in the past were wrong? Are you always intelligent?
- Recognise that higher consciousness levels exist which are considerably more developed than your own
- Attend to the people trying to break through your closed mind. They are attempting to move you into your heart
- Embrace the earlier traumatic experience where the pride originated
Note what is not on that list: being told to be humbler. That instruction lands on the inflation and hardens it. The work goes underneath.
If you are dealing with a prideful leader
- See it as a collective human pattern rather than a personal attack
- Do not identify with the rejection aspect
- Stay in your own power and do not contract
- Recognise that your care is not registering, because they are operating from the ego
- Look honestly at yourself: is there a reason prideful people surround you? Do you somehow allow people to walk over you?
- Where appropriate, let the prideful person acknowledge their own insecurity by naming past mistakes – and then say what you actually came to say
The deeper work
The Close Up Energy Leaks program resolves the charge at the layer where it formed, through Trace – Face – Embrace – Grace. Pride cannot be dismantled from the outside, because the defense exists precisely to prevent that. It dissolves when the insecurity underneath is met, at which point the inflation becomes unnecessary rather than suppressed.
The Power Up Soft Skills program then develops the five authentic soft skills on the ground the charge was occupying.
What replaces pride is not modesty. It is presence that no longer requires the room’s agreement.
Frequently asked questions about the pride charge
Is confidence the same as pride? No, and the difference is testable. Confidence can hear a contradicting fact and update. The pride charge evaluates the fact for compatibility first, and discards what does not fit. If your certainty cannot survive new information, it was never confidence.
Can pride be useful in leadership? The charge produces real drive, and many careers are built on it. But it operates by drawing energy from the people around you rather than generating it, so the cost is externalised onto the team. It works until the organisation needs information to flow upward.
Why does pride flip into jealousy? Because they are the same wound facing in opposite directions at the same sphere. A leader can be expansive and generous until someone else succeeds visibly, at which point the register changes completely. That is not inconsistency — it is one structure with two faces.
How is pride related to insecurity? Insecurity is the root at the Earth level, and pride is one of four strategies for not feeling it. This is why working the surface behaviour without reaching the root changes the presentation of the pattern rather than the pattern.
What resolves pride? Satisfaction. Recognise you will never possess everything that exists; accept that others have received aspects you have not; and recognise that Universal intelligence is beyond individual comprehension, however expert you are in your own discipline.

What is the pride charge in leadership?
The pride charge is one of five inner charges in soul-based leadership development. It produces a perceived high self-esteem – the top dog position – in which one aspect of the self has been exaggerated and completely identified with. In leadership it appears as an inability to genuinely listen, dismissal of others’ ideas, isolated decision-making, criticism used to push people away, and an advisory circle selected for agreement. Underneath the inflation sits insecurity.
